On Jan. 6, 2022, Meredith College announced that Liliana Madrid would serve as the College’s first Coordinator and Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Madrid will begin work on Jan. 24, and she previously served as the director of DEI for the division of academic and student affairs at NC State University.

According to the email sent to the Meredith community, Madrid is currently an educational, leadership, policy and human development PhD student at NC State. President Jo Allen, ‘80, noted in the email that the “joy with which [Madrid] approaches DEI work” stood out to the search committee.

The new DEI position will “support people from a rich diversity of backgrounds–including but not limited to diverse academic experiences, socioeconomic levels, cultures, abilities, sexual orientations, genders, races and ethnicities” according to the press release. The DEI Coordinator will report directly to President Allen.
