The Student Activity Fund (SAF), according to the Student Government Association (SGA) constitution, is a committee that is responsible for overseeing “the SAF fund to the inclusion and benefit of the Meredith community.” Ultimately, the SAF Committee's role is to review SAF proposals from clubs and decide whether or not they can be funded fully, partially or not at all.
According to Cheryl Jenkins, Director of Student Leadership and Service (SLS) and the SAF advisor, the committee’s ultimate goal is to “fund events and activities that will make the Meredith College student experience a meaningful and positive one.” The Student Activities Fee Committee’s constitution can be found under the SGA constitution and Bylaws (p. 38).
Currently, the SAF has appointed Iman Breland to be the new SAF chair. According to the SGA Constitution, the Chair takes on a variety of responsibilities. Some of these responsibilities include serving as Student Government Association treasurer as well as being “an active member” and attending “all meetings of the SGA Executive Board” according to the constitution. The officer indicated alongside the Chair is the SAF Secretary.
Cheryl Jenkins shared that as an advisor she can “help train the Chair and coach that person through all the details of the position.” In addition to this, Jenkins added that she “contribute[s] to conversations in SAF proposal decision discussions to help clarify how some activities and events, particularly traditions, have been done.” Kathy Owen, the SLS Office Manager, helps with all the details to oversee the account.
SAF currently doesn’t have a secretary position. Iman Breland will be in charge of filling the empty positions on the SAF board.
