Weekly Sports Wrap-Up: April 11-17

April 11: Softball game against Pfeiffer University


The softball team took on Pfeiffer University in a double-header and lost both games. The final score for the first game was 8-0. Fallon Wimberly and senior Emily Clemmons both pitched during the first game. Tatum Smith and Alyssa Drake, ‘21, were both up to bat three times each. Kendall Johnson, ‘24, Taylor Walker, Anna Goldman, Madison Hamilton, ‘21, Susanne Taylor, ‘21, and Mia Staggs, ‘24, were all up to bat twice during the game. Savannah Talley, ‘24, was up to bat once during the first game. No one scored any runs. The final score of the second game was 6-0. Danielle Hunt and Sarah Gundlach pitched during the second game. Again no runs were scored. Alyssa Drake, Tatum Smith, Savannah Talley, Fallon Wimberly and Madison Hamilton were all up to bat three times during the game. Mia Staggs, Rachel Johnson, Susanne Taylor and Laura Tobin, ‘24, were all up to bat two times each during the second game.


April 11: Lacrosse game against St. Mary's College of Maryland


The lacrosse team played St. Mary’s College of Maryland and lost with a final score of 15-6. The goalie for this game was senior Joy Deitrich. Freshman Jessica Dowdy scored two goals, had two total shots, three ground balls and two draw controls. Olivia Blake scored one goal, one assist, three total shots and one draw control. Arrianna May, ‘24, scored one goal, one assist, one total shot, one ground ball and one draw control. Senior Lilia Cruz scored one goal, had five total shots, one ground ball and seven draw controls. Briana Petrusa, ‘21, scored one goal, had three total shots and two ground balls. Maya Flake had one assist and one ground ball.


April 11: Volleyball game against Mary Baldwin University


The Meredith volleyball team took on Mary Baldwin in a double-header and won both games. The final score of the first game was 3-1. Senior Ally Copenhaver had a total of 42 attempts, 19 digs and three block assists. Avery Bowman had 27 total attempts, ten digs, one block solo and two block assists. Hailey Long had a total of 26 attempts, one dig and one block assist. Freshman Lauren Bissette had 20 total attempts, two digs, two block solos and five block assists. Whitney Bolton had 15 total attempts and one block assist. Senior Kristen Leavel had a total of 13 attempts and two digs. Bailey Lucas had a total of four total attempts and seven digs. Senior Lauren Phillips had a total of three attempts and 28 digs. The final score of the second game was 3-0. Ally Copenhaver had 20 total attempts and four digs. Avery Bowman also had 20 total attempts, 10 digs and two block assists. Hailey Long had a total of 17 attempts, one dig and one block assist. Whitney Bolton had 14 total attempts, three block solos and three block assists. Kristen Leavel had a total of 12 attempts and two digs. Lauren Bissette had 12 total attempts and three block solos. Bailey Lucas had four total attempts and four digs. Lauren Phillips had three total attempts and 20 digs. Abby Lee, ‘21, and Emma Surles had eight digs each. Freshman Briley Brewer had a total of two digs.


April 11: Tennis match against Mary Baldwin University


The Meredith tennis team won their second game of the season against Mary Baldwin University with a final score of 8-1. In the singles, Aly Henneberry won against Mary Baldwin’s Alexis Seymore; the final score of the first set, and the second set was 6-0. Freshman Savannah Duduk won her singles match against Lauren Hodgkins; the final scores of both the first and second sets were 6-1. Senior Logan King won her singles match against Liz Wine from Mary Baldwin; the final score of the first set was 6-4 and the second set was 6-3. Freshman Summer Elkins won her singles match against Jada Smith with a final first set score of 6-0 and a second set score of 6-1. Senior Amelie Gillies won her singles match against Samantha Childs with a final score of 8-3. In doubles, Aly Henneberry and Savannah Duduk won against Alexis Seymore and Lauren Hodgkins with a final score of 8-1. Logan King and Summer Elkins won their doubles match against Summer Wendt and Jada Smith with a score of 8-0. Amelie Gillies and Rachel Scott Dunn won their match against Samantha Childs and Helen Gutierrez with a score of 8-3.


April 12: Tennis match at home against NC Wesleyan College


In their final game of the regular season, the tennis team lost to NC Wesleyan with a score of 9-0. The team finishes with a 2-4 score for their whole season.


April 14: Volleyball game against Averett University


The Meredith volleyball team played in the USA South East Division semifinals but sadly fell to Averett University with a final score of 3-1. Senior Ally Copenhaver had a total of 38 attempts, six digs and six block assists. Freshman Lauren Bissette had 24 total attempts and two block assists. Avery Bowman had a total of 23 attempts, nine digs and one block assist. Hailey Long had a total of 22 attempts, one dig and one block assist. Whitney Bolton had 16 total attempts and five block assists. Senior Kristen Leavel had 13 total attempts, two digs and one block assist. Bailey Lucas had six total attempts and 15 digs. Freshman Hannah Jo Jablonski had one total attempt and two digs. Senior Lauren Phillips had 24 digs. Emma Surles had five digs.


April 14: Lacrosse game at home against Methodist University


The lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season with a win against Methodist University with a final score of 24-2. Senior Joy Deitrich and freshman Madeline Horrell were the goalies for this game. Olivia Blake scored five goals, one assist, eight total shots and two ground balls. Senior Lilia Cruz scored four goals, two assists, six total shots, two ground balls and 12 draw controls. Tori Witmer scored three goals, had two assists and four total shots. Kylie Phillips scored three goals, had two assists and three total shots. Senior Briana Petrusa scored two goals, one assist, four total shots and had one ground ball. Freshman Jessica Dowdy scored two goals, one assist, two total shots, one ground ball and ten draw controls. Freshman Arrianna May scored two goals, had two total shots and two ground balls. Maya Flake scored one goal, had three assists, one total shot and one ground ball. Freshman Kamryn Muschette scored one goal, had two total shots and one ground ball. Ali Schuh scored one goal and had two total shots.


April 17: Softball game against NC Wesleyan College


The softball team played a double-header against NC Wesleyan College and lost both games. The final score of the first game was 3-0. No players scored any runs during this game. The final score of the second game was 3-4. Sarah Gundlach was the pitcher for this game. Freshman Sarah Manis was up to bat four times during the game. Senior Rachel Johnson was up to bat three times and scored one run. Alyssa Drake, ‘21, Savannah Talley, ‘24, Susanne Taylor, ‘21, and Anna Goldman all were up to bat three times. Tatum Smith and Madison Hamilton, ‘21, were both up to bat twice and score one run each. Brie Caldwell, Mia Staggs, ‘21, and Fallon Wimberly were each up to bat once during the game.
