Netflix continues to dominate the streaming world with 300 million users, according to Statista. The platform consistently updates their library of movies and shows to keep audiences interested. Whether you’re looking for an action-packed movie night, a binge-worthy series, or a hidden gem to share with friends, The Herald is here to give you the scoop on what to watch next on Netflix. The next three months are packed with exciting releases. This guide will help you navigate through what’s worth adding to your watchlist and what’s perfect for when you’re looking for a study break or a way to unwind.
After thoroughly reading through What's on Netflix, I have pulled out what I believe are some of the best releases coming out over the next three months and confirmed releases for the new year.
January:
January may be over, but one last show has come out this Jan. I am personally very excited for this to be released. Season two of “The Recruit” is finally out. Starring Noah Centineo, this action-packed drama series is based on a young CIA lawyer whose job gets flipped upside down when he discovers a threatening letter from a former asset who plans to expose the agency, as described by IMDb. Season One was filled with suspense and was able to capture all the aspects of a drama, a thriller, and a little bit of romance. When I finished season one, I was left on the edge of my seat. Season two will dive deeper into a massive international conflict with dangerous assets. For me, it is not a show I would typically watch, but I started it as background noise to clean my room and found myself unable to turn away. Little to say, I will be doing the same for season two.
February:
The month of love has many new releases on the streaming platform. Coming to Netflix on Feb. 5 is “Kinda Pregnant,” starring Amy Schumer. The movie follows a woman who is jealous of her best friend's pregnancy. After she begins to wear a fake pregnancy belly, she also happens to meet the man of her dreams, as described on IMDb. I am not normally an Amy Schumer watcher, but the plot sounds like a classic rom-com that will make me want to watch it far more than once.
On Feb. 6, “Sweet Magnolias” is back for season four, with the three women who started it all. Best friends since high school guide one another through the complicated aspects of their life, having to navigate the challenges of romance, career and family, according to IMDb. “Sweet Magnolias” has been a feel good drama that I have watched from the beginning. It genuinely makes me feel good, giving me all the warmth and fuzzies when I watch it. Sometimes, I cry, laugh, or even get mad about the other characters, but it just draws you in.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day is season eight of “Love is Blind,” releasing on Feb. 14. This reality dating series brings together singles in a less than conventional manner. IMDb describes how the series focuses on singles being loved for “who they are, rather than what they look like.” They experience dating in a new and innovative way.
To be released Feb. 20 is “Zero Day,” a Netflix mini-series starring Robert De Niro. This mini-series dives into the world of conspiracy theories and imagination, claimed as a drama and thriller, according to IMDb.
On Feb. 23, Netflix will be live streaming “The 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.” Netflix shared on their website that the ceremony will be hosted by Kristen Bell. Readers can also find a full list of nominations on the SAG-AFTRA page.
Last but not least, to be released on Feb. 27, is a new comedy series starring Kate Hudson, Brenda Song and Max Greenfield called “Running Point.” This series is described by IMDb as a sporty comedy that focuses on Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) as she navigates her new role and skepticism as she takes on the role of President of the LA Waves basketball team.
March:
On Mar. 4, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, embarks on a journey to share cooking, gardening and hosting tips, inviting guests to her home, as noted by Netflix. The series shows Markle “embracing playfulness over perfection, highlighting how to create beauty in unexpected ways,” according to IMDb. As noted in a New York Times article, Netflix shared that due to the ongoing devastation as a result of the wildfires in LA, Markle requested that the premiere of her show be pushed back from its original release date of Jan. 15.
Fans of SpongeBob and his crazy adventures in Bikini Bottom are likely to enjoy the new Plankton movie. “Plankton: The Movie” will be released on Netflix on Mar. 7. This movie will show Plankton continuing to run the Chum Bucket with his computer wife, Karen, and will emphasize his “never-ending rivalry with Mr. Krabs,” according to IMDb.
Tyler Perry’s “Beauty In Black” part two will be released on Mar. 13, and this film will continue to explore women's empowerment, as per IMDb. Deadline shared that Perry created, wrote, directed and executive produced the series.
“The Electric State” will hit the platform on Mar. 14. Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo direct the leads of the film, Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, alongside several other big names in the action epic following an orphaned teen in search of her brother, as indicated by IMDb.
April:
On Apr. 24, the fifth and final season of “You” will be coming to screens. Once again, Penn Badgley will play the creepy yet endearing Joe Goldberg. This crime drama thriller will follow Joe as he returns to New York City for a seemingly perfect life with Kate, but his past may come back to haunt him, according to Tudum.
After reviewing the releases over the next three months, January was sure to be a solid month of binge-worthy entertainment. I am most currently looking forward to season two of “The Recruit,” followed by “Sweet Magnolias” and “Running Point” in February.
Blockbuster Movies to Watch Out For:
Netflix has a solid lineup of movies over the next few months, perfect for everyone’s taste. While there is not a set release date, “Happy Gilmore 2” is suspected to be coming out this summer. The highly anticipated film is the sequel to the “Happy Gilmore,” which Adam Sandler starred in. This movie will have many new and old faces, including Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Margaret Qualley, Bad Bunny, Ben Stiller and even Eminem, as noted by IMDb. “Happy Gilmore 2” is also one that I am so excited for. I remember watching it growing up and frankly, anything Adam Sandler does makes my stomach laugh like nothing ever has before. An American sports comedy is sure to leave viewers laughing the whole time.
“The Twits” is an animated family comedy based on the 1980 novel of the same name. Releasing in June 2025 with Natalie Portman, Margo Martindale, and Emilia Clarke voicing characters, according to IMDb.
If you’re looking for a romcom to watch with your significant other, your best friends, or just yourself, “The Life List” is definitely one you’ll want to watch. Sofia Carson stars in this movie about a woman who revisits and tries to achieve her childhood goals. The movie is based on a 2013 novel under the same name by Lori Nelson Spielman, according to Deadline.
Must-Watch Series:
Netflix has a strong reputation for binge-worthy TV, and it continues with the new shows coming this year.
“Black Rabbit,” starring Jason Bateman, Jude Law and Abbey Lee, is sure to be all the drama and more according to IMDb. The storyline is based on a New York City hotspot and follows two brothers.
“F1 Academy” is a behind-the-scenes docuseries, as per IMDb, that looks into the races, personal stories and stakes for the extreme sport in an all woman drivers series.
If you love everything adventure, drama, fantasy, mystery and sci-fi, this show is sure to wrap all that together and deliver you a binge-worthy series in “The Boroughs,” which described by IMDb as an adventure mystery where “a group of unexpected heroes must work together to thwart an extraterrestrial menace from taking the one thing they don't have: time.”
Confirmed Returning Series:
There are several series that have been confirmed to return to Netflix this year, according to What's on Netflix. This includes “Ginny & Georgia” season three, “The Watcher” season two, “Full Swing” season three, “Stranger Things” fifth and final season, “Black Mirror” season seven, “Wednesday” season two, “Squid Games” third and final season, “F1: Drive to survive” season seven and “Big Mouth” eighth and final season.
Netflix’s timeline of new releases over the next three months looks to promise something for everyone, whether you’re looking to laugh, cry, or get lost in a fantasy world. With this guide, you’re all set to make the most of your streaming time. Grab some popcorn, get cozy and let the binge-watching begin!
